Welcome to our Writers in Schools Programme
The New Zealand Book Council's Writers in Schools programme reaches hundreds of schools across New Zealand every year. The programme inspires the reading and writing development of tens-of-thousands of children and teenagers by bringing a New Zealand writer or illustrator into their classroom.
Writers in Schools provides further opportunities for participation in creative writing workshops, literary tours, public events and book festivals. The programme has been at the core of the NZ Book Council’s charity work for over forty years.
How Do I Get Our School Involved?
The best way is for your school to become a member of the New Zealand Book Council. This costs $103.50 (inc GST) per school year and your contribution helps to support our work. Each school year, in return, we can help to bring writers and illustrators to your school, provide access to funding for your first visit, alerts for our event information, delivery of our School Library newsletter and Booknotes Unbound magazine online, and discounted fees for other NZ Book Council events and tours.
The School Library
The School Library connects librarians, teachers and parents with New Zealand writers, reading research and innovative ideas. Enjoy regularly refreshed articles, interviews, book reviews by school librarians and more.
