A Poppy Field's Mystery: Dead Funny Tanya Landman

Review by Grace Thurlow - Wanganui Intermediate School
I think Dead Funny is a great book with lots of mystery and intrigue. It had my mind churning with red herrings, suspects, obvious scenarios and bizarre connections like a novel by Agatha Christie. All round, an excellent and exciting read bound to satisfy any reader. (Appears in the November 2009 edition of Around the Bookshops, and is supplied courtesy of Barbara Murison.)
Grace Morris Gleitzman

Review by Grace Thurlow - Wanganui Intermediate School
If I was rating books on a 1-10 scale I would rate Grace 10 out of 10. It is an extraordinary book that keeps the reader wanting to read more. I think it is one of Morris Gleitzman’s best books. The Thornthwaite Inheritance Gareth P. Jones

Review by Alexander Torrie - Wanganui Intermediate School
The Thornthwaite Inheritance is an incredibly funny book that takes sibling rivalry to a whole new level. It’s filled to bursting point with mystery, secrets and murder. I really enjoyed this book because it kept your on the edge of your seat until the last full stop. I recommend it for ages 8-13.

The Thornthwaite Inheritance is a murderously shocking book with loads of unexpected twists. An easy read recommended for 8 year olds upwards.

Haunted Lorriane Orman

Review by Brooke Chadfield - Wanganui Intermediate School
If I was put in an 8 or 9 year old child’s position; I would say this would be one of the pre-eminent books for young children. Foremost events happen hastily and the ending left me with many questions on the characters’ futures. This is a fantastic book with a plausible plot and I recommend it to all children under 10.
Note: Barbara Murison and I agree that older children may also enjoy this book. (Appears in the November 2009 edition of Around the Bookshops, and is supplied courtesy of Barbara Murison.)
Brainjack Brian Falkner

Review by Pratibha Singh - Wanganui Intermediate School
This book is a fast paced and exciting read. It keeps you reading until midnight with its exciting and thrilling sci-fi battles. It’s a world of espionage and intrigue where computers start the war and humans end it. I would rate it 10 out of 10 because it was so enjoyable and I couldn’t put it down. The Graveyard Book Neil Gaiman

Review by Hope Preater - Wanganui Intermediate School
This book took a bit of getting into and I thought it was going to be really boring but by the end of the book I really enjoyed it. It had great description and wonderful illustrations. For anyone who enjoys a good fantasy read this is a book not to miss. I rate it 81/2 out of 10.
