Allen, Tui (Simpson, Tui) (1952 - ) is an author of children's books whose stories often have an outdoor theme, inspired by her love of sports like ocean sailing and mountain biking.
Captain Clancy and the Flying Clothesline (1987), Allen's first book, tells the story of a city clothesline which waits for a windy day to escape its urban existence. In the New Zealand Herald, Betty Gilderdale writes that Tui Allen 'authoritatively commands phrases such as "Slacken fore-jerseys!", "Haul in the starboard apron!" or "Tighten headwires and reset the port dresses!".'
Other titles by Tui Allen are The Well Fed Bear (1998), Tims T Shirts (1998), Whats Around the Corner? (1989). A poem, 'Tumbler Dolphin', and several stories have appeared in the School Journal.
