The New Zealand Book Council invites you to join us for the 2017 NZ Book Council Lecture.

The Pony Club
Delivered by Owen Marshall

How does the short story measure up to the novel in New Zealand literary circles?

This year, acclaimed short-story writer and novelist Owen Marshall discusses this concept, exploring the question of why many see the novelist as a member of the elite 'Equestrian' Club, whilst writers of short stories are saddled with the label of the 'Pony Club'.

Are the members of the Pony Club destined to be seen as lesser, or are they just as worthy of elitism as the thoroughbred novelists?

RSVP: This is a free event, but spaces are limited. Please email rsvp@bookcouncil.org.nz to secure your seat.

Visit http://www.wellingtonclub.co.nz/about for information about the venue and dress code required.

The New Zealand Book Council Lecture has become a prominent part of the literary landscape in Aotearoa New Zealand. It provides an opportunity for one of our country’s leading writers to discuss an aspect of literature close to their heart.
