The Book Council International Writers' Programme
The New Zealand Book Council runs an International Writers' Programme to expand the market for New Zealand writers, and to foster closer literary relations with other countries.
The International Writers' Programme has two parts. Part of the programme looks at exporting New Zealand writers to Australia to appear at literary festivals and events, and brings Australian writers to New Zealand. The Book Council puts forward a short-list of suggested writers to Australian festivals, who choose the writers who most closely fit with their programme. This part of the programme is supported by the Australia Council for the Arts and the Australian High Commission in New Zealand.
In conjunction with Creative New Zealand’s Audience Development initiative, we also offer support to New Zealand writers attending other high profile international literary festivals. Writers on promotional visits connected with the international publication of their work are also eligible to apply for assistance.
The first round of applications for the 2008 programme will close on 31 January, 2008.
Interested writers can email or write to the New Zealand Book Council for an application form and conditions of the Writers’ Exchange, or access them using the links below.
