Artists to Antarctica Programme

Artists to Antarctica is a programme to send artists - including writers - to Antarctica.
Antarctica New Zealand was established to develop, manage and execute New Zealand's activities in respect of the Antarctic and Southern Ocean, in particular the Ross dependency. Our vision is one of Antarctica: refreshing global ecosystems and the human spirit. In line with this vision, and as part of the development of initiatives designed to advance awareness, appreciation, and knowledge of Antarctica, the Artists to Antarctica Programmes was formally established in 1996 with support from Creative New Zealand.
The Programme aims to encourage New Zealand Artists to explore Antarctica in their work and thus increase understanding among New Zealanders and the values of Antarctica and its global importance. Antarctica New Zealand aims to cater, over time, for a wide variety of artistic styles and audiences that reflect the diversity of Antarctica and of New Zealand society.
The programme is open to applications from serious scholars of the humanities including writers, poets, painters, musicians, photographers, sculptors, choreographers and anyone who believes their art fits the criteria. Successful applicants will travel to Antarctica for up to two weeks and will visit sites appropriate to their artistic discipline.
Applications close each year on the 1st of March.
