The Montana New Zealand Book Awards are an amalgamation of two previously existing literary awards: The New Zealand Book Awards and the Montana Book Awards.
Awards are made in eight categories: Fiction, Poetry, History, Biography, Environment, Reference & Anthology, Illustrative, and Lifestyle and Contemporary Culture.
Winners of the non-fiction categories are eligible for the Montana Medal and entries in the fiction category compete for the Deutz Medal.
Authors of first published books are eligible for the New Zealand Society of Authors Best First Book Awards. The public can also vote for their favourite book by participating in the Readers' Choice Award.
The awards are sponsored by Montana Wines and Creative New Zealand and supported by the Book Publishers Association of New Zealand, the New Zealand Society of Authors and Book Tokens (NZ) Ltd. They are managed and administered by Booksellers New Zealand.
Publisher submission deadline is Friday 8 December 2006 .
