Robert Lord Writers Cottage Residency

Robert Lord (1945-1992) was one of New Zealand's pioneer playwrights (Joyful and Triumphant, Bert and Maisy, Well Hung). When he returned to New Zealand after many years in New York to take up a Burns Fellowship at Otago University, he bought his first home - a small 3 room cottage close to the university and the town centre.

Before he died Robert put in place a plan that the cottage would become a home for other writers who would choose to come to Dunedin to write. A Trust was established to administer the plan. Robert's intention was that the Trust would open the Titan Street cottage after his mother's death. However, Bebe Lord has decided to mark the tenth anniversary of Robert's death and to make the cottage available as a writer's residence from 2003. The cottage will be available rent free from February 2003 for writers in any genre for periods from 3 months to 2 years.

Residencies may be held in conjunction with other grants or awards.
