The Press Christchurch Writers' Festival

The Press Christchurch Writers' Festival is a biennial spring event that encourages visitors to Christchurch when the city is at its loveliest.

The 2004 festival was held from 30 August to 5 September. It featured the Read Aloud schools' programme, special library events and a series of workshops for aspiring writers and illustrators.

The festival also had a large programme of literary events. The line-up of New Zealand’s writers, artists and commentators included Claudia Orange, Tom Scott, Gordon McLauchlan, Lawrence Jones, Joe Bennett, Keri Hulme, Jim McAloon, Geoffrey Rice, Fiona Farrell, Owen Marshall, Michele Leggott, Jenny Bornholdt, Rangi Faith, Kevin Ireland, Jenny Pattrick, Lloyd Jones, Vicky Jones, James George, Gavin Bishop, Powhiri Rika-Heke and Catherine Chidgey.
