Whitireia Community Polytechnic Diploma in Publishing

This highly regarded programme is New Zealand’s only training course for the publishing industry. It is one of the few in the world that covers the entire publishing process and is available online.
Publishing industry involvement
Developed and run in partnership with the publishing industry, the course is modelled on an apprenticeship, focusing on practical experience and industry contacts. All of the course tutors are practitioners in the publishing industry, students attend work placements in publishing firms, and guest speakers include publishers, editors, designers, sales reps, publicists, booksellers and authors. In addition, students on the course each take a manuscript through to publication, dealing with every aspect from developing the idea to selling the product.
New internship programme
On completion of the course, three graduates are offered the chance to work in publishing firms. These six-month internships are a new initiative designed to foster fresh voices and to help publishing graduates develop their practical skills and make the transition into full-time work or freelance careers.
