What happens when a cluster of schools, passionate writers and teachers, talented students and committed partner organisations work together? Magic.
Last week, students from five Otahuhu schools presented the books they had written to their families and the South Auckland community.
The New Zealand Book Council works with authors who work with the students over a period of six weeks.
The aim is to inspire the students to read and write their own stories. The books they write are published and available in the local library.
The auditorium was packed with family, friends and community members who were beaming with pride at the students and what they had achieved.
Reading and writing was championed by all.
This is how we can build communities of readers.
