Four NZ nominees for Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award
Four New Zealand writers have made the longlist of authors for this year’s Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award, the world’s richest prize for a short story collection – last year, New Zealand author Charlotte Grimshaw beat off world-renowned writers such as Alice Munro and Australian David Malouf to make the final shortlist for the award.
The nominated writers are: Tim Jones for Transported (Random House New Zealand Ltd); Sue Orr for Etiquette for a Dinner Party (Random House New Zealand Ltd); Elizabeth Smither for The Girl Who Proposed (Cape Catley Ltd); and Witi Ihimaera for Ask The Posts Of The House (Raupo Publishing Ltd).
Now entering its fourth year the award which carries a cash prize of 35000 euro has an impressive 39 writers on its longlist including Booker prize winner Anne Enright and Jumpa Lahri.with her book Unaccustomed Earth already number one on the New York Times Bestseller list.
The Shortlist will be announced mid-July with the winner declared at the closing event of the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Festival in Cork, Ireland September 21st. Click here for further information on the award.
