I think the theme running throughout the book is excellent. As someone who is not fluent in Te Reo Māori, but can understand the language, I found it a little difficult to work through some of the word translations and grammatical differences. However, using the glossary at the back of the book helped me to understand which meaning the translator had aligned to specific words.
I think this book would be appropriate for Kura Kaupapa Māori and some higher level bilingual classes. Students will enjoy the story and illustrations.
