This book follows on from the (true) story of Moo and Moo as told in Deborah’s first book, Moo and Moo and the little calf too. It is now nine months after the Kaikoura earthquake, and both Moo and Moo are both expecting calves.
This story handles the natural miracle of birth and nursing carefully and respectfully, and in an age-appropriate manner. The illustrations are familiar, colourful and clear, adding to the narrative of the words. This book could be used as an introduction to the early life cycle of a farm animal, and readers should be prepared for follow-up comments and questions from curious children!
At the end of the story there is a section that includes plenty of factual information about cattle, including: general terminology, cattle feed and birthing/nursing.This could assist readers with any tricky questions that might pop up.
A well-told story about a somewhat sensitive subject told factually and carefully, with plenty of local knowledge!
