The Kiwi did not always know that the egg was supposed to crack anyway. It left us wondering. The illustration zoomed in on the main character, always clear detail and very interesting to the child’s eye. We loved it!
We like that the story connects with NZ kids. There is more to talk about when you look at the illustrations. A range of ages would enjoy this story.
Younger children under eight would benefit from taking a picture walk through the book.
Children 8–12 could read this independently and those older could use expression to share the book with someone younger.
The te Reo version of the book should have a CD to accompany it. This gives all teachers or readers the opportunity to hear the correct pronunciation.
