New Old Truck is a lovely book based on a true story about a restored 1921 Model 10 Republic truck located in the Hawkes Bay; it is the only truck of its kind in the world.
Each double-page spread has simple colourful illustrations on one side, and the text with lots of white space on the other. Dad wants to get rid of Old Truck and buy a new one but the children want to keep it. In the end it goes into storage and there it stays until the son returns home, older and keen to restore the truck to its former glory.
At the back of the book is the history with photographs of the truck as it was and as it is now, together with family members. This book is a good read-aloud, and can prompt discussion about things from the past.
