This book is full of surprises. It is pleasantly funny with a relatable story of the hustle and bustle of morning routines within a household, with Mum and the children swapping roles towards the end of the story. It has a ballad story style that lends itself beautifully into many elements of poetry – personification, alliteration, and couplet rhyming to name a few. The repetitive use of the “spl” blend could also be a teaching point. It also lends itself to other areas of the curriculum – Science and Art in particular. The illustrations are fun and busy, and show how much fun a rainy day can be.
This book would be an asset to any classroom or school library. It would suit any age level, whether being used as a read-aloud, or using it as a teaching focus.
