This story is about the enjoyment of being with friends, the realisation that feelings can be shared and the understanding that children can change how they feel in response to negative feelings. In the book this is referred to as ‘magic’ and using a ‘spell’ to change their mindset. I would prefer to use the word ‘imagination’ to describe this.
The book is one of the ‘Feel Brave’ series dealing with the emotional challenges that young children can face. It has an inviting front cover and the abstract illustrations promote the story but leave the pages uncluttered. The rhyming text flows and is in a clear font.
This book would appeal to young primary school children ages 5–7.
