The Wolf’s Colourful Coat is part of the ‘Feel Brave’ series started by Kiwi born Avril McDonald. Avril is a former primary school teacher from the Kapiti coast. Her books are aimed at childhood emotional wellbeing, siting the issues, providing ways to fix the problems and also encouraging a calm demeanour when dealing with said issues.
This particular story deals with Wolfgang’s amazing coat, which he loves and all his friends tease him about. Avril has cleverly started this book with the issue of teasing and then moves into bullying and how kindness wins out in the end. I love the emotional journey the reader is taken on in this book; you feel everything that Wolfgang does, the joy, the hurt, the sorrow and the happiness.
The gorgeous illustrations just add to the warmth of The Wolf’s Colourful Coat. Such beautiful colours and depth. There is a teaching guide available for the books in the Feel Brave series but needs to be purchased separately.
I highly recommend this book for all children, to help them to practice their own emotional wellbeing.
