Weekends for Trout Fishing in New Zealand by Colin Moore. Lots of fishing tips, plus where to stay and what to do afterwards. New Holland Publishers.

North Island Trout Fishing Guide by John Kent. A practical handbook that provides accurate information about trout fishing in the North Island, this book is aimed at local anglers and overseas enthusiasts. Kent draws on more than 50 years of trout fishing experience and provides detailed information on the world-famous Taupo and Rotorua areas. (Reed Publishing, 2006)

Fishing the Hauraki Gulf by Bruce Duncan with Mike Rose has practical advice for anyone wanting to catch snapper in New Zealand. The book is for anglers of all abilities but it is primarily aimed at those new to fishing or those who, while keen, are often largely unsuccessful.

Century in Black: 100 Years of All Black Test Rugby (Hodder Moa Beckett, 2003) by sports writer Ron Palenski. While in essence a rugby history, it also has elements of being a social history: New Zealand and rugby are indivisible.
