COWLEY, Wanda

The sea is always close and her characters come alive in a distinctive landscape.

COWLEY, Wanda (1924 - ) is a writer for children whose stories and poems have appeared in numerous journals. Many focus on an empathy with the natural environment.

A review in Beneath Southern Skies describs Wanda Cowley as "very much a New Zealand writer, she captures the feeling of what it is like to live on these islands. The sea is always close and her characters come alive in a distinctive landscape."

Her titles are Biddy Alone (1988); Trespassers (1991); and Biddy and the Night Birds (1994).

Tessa Duder praises Biddy Alone as "a completely satisfying book... With an economy of words and sharp dialogue notable in a first book...".
