WATSON, Joy (1938- ) is a children's writer.Her picture bookGrandpa's Slippers (1989), was a finalist in the 1990 Aim Children's Book Awards and stood the test of time to win the 1999 Gaelyn Gordon Award for a Much-Loved Book. It was followed by the sequel Grandpa's Cardigan (1993). Watson then added Grandpa's Shorts (2001), which won the Children's Choice award in the 2002 New Zealand Post Children's Book awards.
Watson's other titles are: Pets (1988); Mouse in the House (1989); No Porridge Please (1994); Just in Case (1996); A Wet Day At School (1996); Foster Dog (1999), Highway Robbery (2000) and The Birthday Flood (2001).

Joy Watson is available to talk to students aged between 5-15 as part of the Writers in Schools programme. She is prepared to discuss writing tips, publishing and fun with words, as well as anything the students ask her. She would prefer to speak to classes of between 25-35 students.
