Joy Watson is a children’s book author. She has won and been nominated for several awards for her writing, and her picture book, Grandpa's Slippers (1989), was a finalist in the 1990 Aim Children's Book Awards. It also went on to win the 1999 Gaelyn Gordon Award for a Much-Loved Book. She published a collection of poems for children, Worms Squirm...and other poems, in 2007. Joy Watson is available to talk to students aged between 5-15 years, as part of the Writers in Schools programme.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Watson, Joy (1938- ) is a children's writer.
Her picture book Grandpa's Slippers (1989), was a finalist in the 1990 Aim Children's Book Awards and stood the test of time to win the 1999 Gaelyn Gordon Award for a Much-Loved Book. It was followed by the sequel Grandpa's Cardigan (1993). Watson then added Grandpa's Shorts (2001), which won the Children's Choice award in the 2002 New Zealand Post Children's Book awards.
Watsons other titles are: Pets (1988); Mouse in the House (1989); No Porridge Please (1994); Just in Case (1996); A Wet Day At School (1996); Foster Dog (1999), Highway Robbery (2000) and The Birthday Flood (2001).

Joy Watson is available to talk to students aged between 5-15 as part of the Writers in Schools programme. She is prepared to discuss writing tips, publishing and fun with words, as well as anything the students ask her. She would prefer to speak to classes of between 25-35 students.
