Landing Press warmly welcomes you to celebrate the launch of 'My wide white bed' by Trish Harris. From nurses to chaplains, from visitors to the cleaning staff, 'My wide white bed' is a collection of poems that bring to life how a patient experiences a prolonged hospital stay, beginning life on the orthopaedic ward at Hutt Hospital. The poems, which are short, whimsical, sometimes humorous, encouraging, always with a thoughtful undertone navigates daily hospital life and the path to recovery. As doctor-poet Glenn Colquhoun puts it in his endorsement of the book, ‘It is a medicine itself. It shows how crucial imagination is to being well, and how it is less often sparked by angels than bedpans, and by noticing, and by thinking to hold the stare of whatever is looking back at us.’ The launch will be in The Helen Smith Room, Pataka Art + Museum, situated on the corner of Norrie and Parumoana Streets, from 2.30–4PM. There is mobility parking in the car park off Norrie Street and at the Parumoana Street entrance. The Helen Smith Room is closest to the Norrie Street entrance. Refreshments will be provided. All are welcome. We hope to see you there!
