A child wakes up eager for a day on the farm with Dad to begin. You can feel his sense of excitement and anticipation as he wakes Dad and gets dressed. A day spent pretending to drive the tractor, feeding the goat, hiding in the grass and learning to fly the kite.
As the day progresses you have a sense of his developing independence and increasing confidence. The progression from requesting help with his gumboots “Can you help me” to “Can I feed it” and then “I can do it” until finally that sense of achievement and accomplishment “All by myself”.
The illustrations cleverly portray a scale of size and dimension with the child on the tractor, standing by Dad in the grass, hidden in the grass and an aerial view as well as portraying the optical illusion of something from a child’s perspective appearing to touch the sky.
