The title alone grabbed the interest of my class! The first page starts with a question which instantly engages the reader. Each page gives a clue to what will be on the next page. The fly says ‘Goody, goody, yum-yum! Delicious and chewy’ as he approaches a pile of poo—also an attention grabber as my class was fascinated and repelled all at the same time.
The illustrations are colourful and humorous and alternation between a close-up of the fly and the animal making the poo is an effective size comparison. The use of different fonts and different font sizes also makes the book interesting to read. The small amount of text on each illustrated page makes this a great read-aloud book to share with younger children ages 3–7.
